As summer approaches, the idea of a shorter series becomes more appealing. The spare time that you do spend inside can be filled with 30-minute episodes of humour, drama, or crime, As the weather improves, sinking your teeth into a long series may not be everybody’s cup of tea. Below are some of the best Netflix miniseries which I would highly recommend. They are extremely easy watches and are different type of genre so that you can try and find one that best suits you’re like.
The UK Office
As much the American Office has completely swept the globe and become a long-running series that everybody loves. The UK office is the original directed, written, and starring Ricky Gervais himself.
This very British mini-series is of course similar to the first episode of the American office, yet the storylines and episodes differ completely in the way the comedy and acting are directed and thus produced.
These are 20-minute episodes and only have two seasons (along with a Christmas special). This series provides endless laughs and huge amounts of awkward moments as David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais, highlights the struggle of a socially awkward man, desperately seeking the approval of his work colleagues.
If you need a 20-minute laugh, this is definitely one of the series that I would highly recommend.
Love Life
Anna Kendrick is famous for her many roles in high-profile films such as Pitch Perfect. She has created a light-hearted yet also interesting watch called Love Life.
It surrounds her being the main character as she tries to find the love of her life, as you see her go through every stage of her life and the men that this entails.
Her fictional character documents the ups and downs and turmoil that young women face in the 21st century; and the struggles that they endure to find themselves the perfect match…if that even exists.
This series does have a light-hearted feel, so is a very pleasant and easy watch to enjoy, as it is now available on Netflix.
You
This is a series where a young man called Joe becomes extremely obsessive with the females in his life.
He narrates, and is the main character of, this whole show. He demonstrates the toxicity and obsession that he has regarding the ideals of love.
This involves murders, cover-ups, copious amounts of crime, and illegal activities, yet also depth and passion. This show is an extremely good yet creepy one to watch.
You will be sitting on the edge of your seat as Joe stalks the people in his life to try to get a better grip on how to control them.
Scream
This series is an adaptation of the horror film franchise Scream.
Putting this into a modern-day series allows people to enjoy the suspense and dramatic gruesome deaths that a horror film usually involves.
You get to know the high school characters and end up rooting for certain ones to definitely make it, as a masked killer is on the loose in their community.
This easy yet enjoyable Crime watch will have you guessing who the murderer is, whilst also rooting for the love connections that these teenager’s form amid this awful killing spree.
Derek
Finally, Derek is another amazingly produced, created, and filmed show starring Ricky Gervais.
This shows the troubles and economic factors that care homes in the United Kingdom face. Through the humour of Derek, an assistant and carer at this care home, he highlights how love and care are all people need in this world.
He shows how, just because people are old, they should not be forgotten or ‘dumped’ in a care home never to be seen again.
He sits and chats with the older generation and shows how the simple things in life should and could make everybody happy.
This is a highly emotional series yet has some valuable life lessons to take with you and to remember. It shows how the smallest thing can make somebody’s day.
