Top Three Staycation Locations In Cornwall

Cornwall is one of the best places to go on holiday, and what makes it even better is that you will not even have to fly there! Rivalling Devon’s staycation reputation, Cornwall is perhaps the best UK county to go to on holiday this summer.

Helford River

The Helford river is one of the most beautiful places in the UK. With picturesque beach fronts and fantastic seafood, it is the epitome of what Cornwall has to offer.

It is a reasonable walk to Falmouth. But, if you stay in a nearby village like Mawnan Smith, it is definitely a fun amble. Along the coastal path, there are stunning views of the English Channel, as well as lots of boats to take a look at as they pass along the horizon. In Falmouth, there is a fantastic harbour with shops and restaurants that appeal to most audiences. There is also the National Maritime Museum, which is equally as enjoyable.

Overall, the Helford area is a fantastic getaway in Cornwall that has the cuisine and views to match any European counterparts.

Mawgan Porth

Mawgan Porth, on the opposite side of Cornwall to Helford, is a great getaway for surfers and loungers alike. The beach at Mawgan Porth is a diamond in the rough, avoiding the crowds of nearby Newquay and Padstow.

There are numerous surf schools to get you started on your surfing journey, or there are reasonably priced rentals for more experienced seafarers. The beach is also quite sheltered, meaning that it gets less of a breeze than some others.

The Scarlet is one of the most famous hotels in the area, but can be a little too expensive for some holidaymakers. There are also multiple options from Airbnb, which are more reasonably priced.

Overall, Mawgan Porth is a great beach destination for those craving a sun lounger or a surf without the hassle of flying abroad.

The Isles of Scilly

This may be a slight cheat of an option, but the Isles of Scilly should be on most people’s bucket lists of places to go in the UK. It may be much harder to get to than the rest of Cornwall, but it is certainly worth it.

The main islands of Tresco and St Mary’s are both tranquil and picturesque. Fresh food is very easy to come by, and the pubs certainly keep up with the quality of the restaurants.

The other islands have less happening, but their proximity means that a boat or kayak trip visiting the many archipelagos can keep you occupied for days on end.

Characterised as an area of natural beauty, the islands are a fantastic destination for those who feel as though they have “done” the UK. It is a less well-trodden destination, but perhaps that is key to its beauty and tranquility.
