Top Tips For Camping At A Festival

As the weather is getting warmer and responsibilities are slipping away, we’re entering the beginning of festival season. Whether you’re into heavy rock, drum and bass or anything in between, there is a festival for everyone.

Over the last few years, due to Covid, a lot of festivals were cancelled, so this year may be a first for a lot of people. Here are our best tips for going to a festival this summer.

Portable chargers are your best friend

Make sure you stock up on portable chargers. The last thing you need is a phone that’s out of battery before you see your favourite act and get to record it. Only use your phone when you really need to. There’s time to scroll through TikTok once you get home. Especially if you’re at the festival for more than two nights.

Get a colourful tent

Picture this: you’re walking back to the campsite, a little bit drunk, and you’re faced with a never ending sea of tents. It’s going to take a while to find yours and you definitely don’t want to end up in the wrong one. It’s useful to invest in a colourful tent that will stand out, or even just add a flag or something memorable so you can spot it.

Don’t pitch your tent near the path or the toilet

This one’s pretty self explanatory. You don’t want to be woken up by people trampling on your tent. It’s also really loud near the paths so, if you don’t plan on staying up all night, you won’t want to camp there. It’s also not a great idea to pitch your tent near the DJ tent (I learned this one from experience).

Stay hydrated

Most festivals take part in the peak of summer and, while it’s easy to get excited by all the food and drink on offer, you need to remember to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. You don’t want to end up with sunstroke or feeling ill. Most festivals have a refillable water station, so make sure to bring a reusable bottle. If you’re not a fan of water, a great idea is to bring a small pocket-sized squeezy squash that you can add to the water to give it some flavour.

Don’t spend a fortune on equipment

Unless you’re an avid camper, you probably don’t already own a tent, sleeping bag, roll mat etc. Although you do need all of these things, don’t spend a lot of money on the most expensive ones you can find. It’s likely that it might get damaged during the festival, or you might not even want to take it home at the end, you might want to throw it away. You need to take equipment you wouldn’t be heartbroken to leave behind.

Finally, enjoy yourself! Live music has been at a standstill for some time due to the pandemic and it’s amazing to see the return of all festivals. Make the most of it and let us know which festival you’re planning to attend in the comments.
