We all know Netflix is one of the places to go for a true crime docuseries and the next to arrive is Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist so here’s the true story behind it.
The documentary is the first in volume 2 of the four-part series Untold and is set to hit the streaming site on August 16.

Untold is a Netflix original sports documentary series that first released its five episodes in 2021 and covered athletes such as Caitlyn Jenner, Christy Martin and Mardy Fish.
Episode 1, Untold: Breaking Point, focused on the tennis pro Mardy Fish; Episode 2, Untold: Crimes & Penalties, centred around former hockey franchise owner James Galante and his son A. J. Galante, and Episode 3, Untold: Malice at the Palace, explores what is known as one of the most infamous brawls in the history of NBA which happened during a 2004 game between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons.
Episode 4, Untold: Deal with the Devil, focuses on the American female boxer Christy Martin; finally and finally, Episode 5, Untold: Caitlyn Jenner, is about the former professional athlete of the same name.

Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist looks into the real story of American football star Manti Te’o’s infamous Girlfriend Hoax.

The synopsis reads: ‘All-American football standout Manti Te’o leads a simple life summed up in just three words: faith, family, football. College football’s golden boy could do no wrong, but when tragedy strikes, the increased scrutiny of his online relationship causes a media maelstrom that threatens his future and legacy.’
The documentary features in-depth interviews with Manti Te’o himself and the person behind the online identity, Ronaiah ‘Naya’ Tuiasosopo.
True Story behind Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist
Back in September 2012 native Hawaiian linebacker, Manti Te’o, revealed his grandmother and girlfriend Lennay Kekua passed away. Te’o garnered huge amounts of sympathy as he dedicates his season to his lost loved ones.

However, things take a turn for the worst when scrutiny into his online relationship reveals Lennay never existed.
Lanney was actually a fictional character created by Naya Tuiasosopo who catfished Te’o.
