When October arrives thoughts instantly go to Halloween, but for the past two weekends, Oktoberfest has been a fun and exciting time that has swept across the UK.
This past weekend, I experienced my first Oktoberfest and it certainly didn’t disappoint although it’s on the expensive side for drinks, this event is usually held in a warehouse or in an outside tented venue.
With live music and a stage, alongside everyone being dressed up in lederhosen or bierkeller outfits, this day really is one that all should experience.
What is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest is an annually celebrated beer festival in Germany which has now spread worldwide but originated in 1810 through the marriage of the Prince of Bavaria to Princess Theresa’s Von Sachsen Hildburghausen.
This festival included eating, drinking and dancing! There are colourful processions and parades. This exciting festival has now broken the borders of Germany and is enjoyed across the world.
The outfits are a great reason and excuse to get dressed up with your friends and experience some German culture.
Due to this event becoming so popularised, costumes have become available on Amazon, eBay, and even second-hand shops such as Vinted.
This means that no matter your university budget you have the availability to find a cheap but fitting costume.
Some people of course do not dress up, however, the majority definitely do!
