We all know how distracting social media can be. Scrolling through Instagram or keeping an eye on notifications can definitely keep you awake at night. Luckily, it is reported that Instagram is working on a way for helping users get a good night’s sleep or be less distracted. But what is Instagram quiet mode, and how can you turn it on and off?

Access to our phones and social media can be very distracting. Whether you need to get an assignment done, complete an online exam or just need some time away from your phone, the constant ping of notifications can be hard to resist. Instagram quiet mode allows users to mute notifications from Instagram during the night. Meta have not made an official announcement about the feature but Digital Information World reports that Instagram are working on the feature. Though it appears some users have quiet mode, unfortunately not everybody has access to it yet. That means, for the time being, only some users will be able to turn it on or off.

By setting it up, you can set up a period of time each day that Instagram won’t send your notifications. Your activity status will let your followers know that you’re in quiet mode as well and an auto-reply will be sent to any messages received.

Quiet mode on Instagram will automatically turn on each day once your allocated time starts.

If you do have access to the feature, then you will be able to toggle it on and off through your settings. Go through the mobile app or web browser and head to your profile. Click the three lines at the top to bring up your options. Select settings and then notifications, which has a bell icon next to it and should be second on your list.

It’s not known when the feature will be rolled out properly, but keep your Instagram up to date to ensure you get the latest features. For now, you can use the ‘Pause all’ feature to stop notifications temporarily. Or, if you want a more thorough job, you can use airplane mode on your device to stop all notifications and limit your access to the Internet.
