Who Is Cat Burns?

Cat Burns is a British singer-songwriter who studied at The BRITs school. After self-releasing an EP at only 16, Cat struggled to secure a record deal. However, this didn’t stop her from releasing a second EP, Naive, in 2019.

The young singer used the pandemic to her advantage and started posting videos of her singing her own songs on TikTok in 2020. It was this that finally secured Cat a record deal with Since 93, a subsidiary if RCA Records.

Since then, Cat has supported Olly Alexander of Years and Years and even Ed Sheeran on selected dates of their UK tours in 2022. She made her television debut on Later…with Jools Holland in May and later performed on his New Year’s Eve show Hootenanny.

The Cat Burns TikTok Song

Though the song was first released back in 2020, it really took off in 2022. Cat posted it several times on TikTok and eventually, it went viral. Now, fans are making videos and edits of the song and even got it to number 2 on the UK singles chart, narrowly missing out due to Harry Style’s As It Was.

The song is called Go and is off Cat Burn’s album Emotionally Unavailable. It’s about someone who has been cheated on and finally ends it by telling her ex-partner to go.

The song really took off on TikTok. Lots of listeners related to its break-up message and fell in love with its solemn tones and Cat’s stunning voice.

The 22-year-old singer now how 1.3 million followers on TikTok with over 30 million likes, but it doesn’t stop there.

This year, Cat Burns has been nominated for three BRIT awards: Rising Star, Best Pop/R&B Act and Song of the Year. Already, the Go singer came fourth In BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2023 award. She even had her first cover on GAY Times, where she spoke about the difficulties of being Black and queer in the industry and more:

“If you’re a Black woman, I want you to feel heard and seen. We are vulnerable people who are capable of having lots of emotions. And, being a Black queer woman adds a layer to that.”

Clearly, the fledgling star has a promising career ahead of her. Cat has proved that perseverance can definitely be worth it in the end.
