TikTok is mecca for original songs and is how many new artists reach new audiences. With this reach, many people who create random, quirky tunes, not meant for release, also get good attraction. This happened when artist Corook posted their song titled “If I were a fish” about feeling down on TikTok. This song wasn’t meant to reach the masses, but audiences really took to it and now it is all anyone can talk about.
How Popular Is “If I Were A Fish” on TikTok?
On April 13, artist Corook posted a TikTok video captioned:
“I was having a very emotional day, feeling insecure and out of place. So I cried to Olivia and after feeling through it, we wrote this song in 10 minutes to remember the joy in being different.”
The video quickly gained traction and currently has over 8 million views and 1.6 million likes. The song has been praised by people all over the world, including artists such as Tori Kelly who wrote ‘obsessed’ and Dodie who commented ‘This is all I want’.
As with many viral singing videos, people want to join in with the joy. So, it is unsurprising that hundreds of people have duetted the original video adding harmonies, backing vocals and playing instruments to enhance the song.
Many others have simply put their own spin on the If I Were A Fish song, singing it themselves, and we are definitely here for it.
When Will The Song Be Released?
In a TikTok posted just days after the original video, Corook announced that “If I were a fish” will be getting an official release. They wrote, “These last few days have been so wonderfully overwhelming. Y’all are making this song what it is.”
The song will be released on 21 April. You can pre-save “If I were a fish” if you want to get ahead of the curve.
