TikTok has been in the spotlight for some time now, and has become the go-to social media app for many people. As a result, it has been consistently updating itself to keep with the times and introducing new features. The latest feature that TikTok has introduced is Series, a premium content option. What Is TikTok Series?
TikTok Series is a new way for creators on the app to monetize their content. With the Series feature, creators can post content in collections of up to 80 videos, with each video being up to 20 minutes long. This is something of a departure from the usually short-form nature of the app, where up until now videos have been capped at 10 minutes. This type of content can include things like beauty and skincare tutorials, cooking tutorials, fitness, comedy sketches and more.
Currently, only select creators are able to use the feature. However, applications will be open in the coming months for new creators to join and create their own videos for Series.
For audiences, Series will allow users to see exclusive and longer-form content from the creators they follow. It will also allow them to see videos that are more extensive and go further in depth than regular TikTok content, with the longer video option. The Series content will still need to follow TikTok’s community guidelines.
These changes come as TikTok combats plateauing user numbers in the United States. Series will also be running its own website, which will track the performance of these particular videos.
How Much Does TikTok Series Cost?
TikTok Series offers a revenue option for creators beyond the £1 billion creator fund which was established in 2020. Users will have to pay in order to see videos posted in the Series category. However, the specific amount they will have to pay depends on what the creator is charging. In USD, creators can charge anywhere from $1 to $190 for their Series. The paid content can be accessed through links in videos or in the user’s profile. However, the app will be taking a 30% cut of what creators make on these videos.
