Exam season is almost here, with all your hard work in Years 12 and 13 working towards this. If you’re getting your timetable ready or want to know when it all begins, we can answer when do A Levels start, as well as when results day 2023 is.
You’ve either been preparing for the whole of Year 13 or your serious cramming is about to start. Whatever your revision method of choice, you’ve only got a matter of weeks until exam season 2023 begins. You’ll probably know when your tests are, or you’ll find out soon. If you want to get ahead and plan your timetable, and even your friends if they need some help, then we can tell you when it’s going to kick off.
When Do A Level Exams Start In 2023?
Spanning over a month, A Level exams begin on Monday, May 15 and will continue until Tuesday, June 27 this academic year.
There are four different exam boards that we’ve taken into account. Apart from OCR (May 19), all other boards start on the same day, they have different days for the last exam.
AQA: Friday, June 23
OCR: Monday, June 26
Pearson: Tuesday, June 27
WJEC: Friday, June 23
All share the same contingency day, which is Wednesday, June 28.
If you’re not sure whether you’ll be in an exam on the first or final days, then most of the exam boards hold very similar exams each day.

So, for Monday, May 15, it will be mainly Biology, English Language, Spanish, Economics and Mathematics. Other exams being held are Drama, Design & Technology and Geology by WJEC.
For OCR on May 19, there will be two exams on Ancient History.
Some unlucky few will have to take exams to the very end. Although the different boards finish on different days, it’s the same subjects that carry on until the last day. So, if you study Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Religious Studies, then unfortunately your summer will have to wait a little longer.
Of course, your A Levels may start at a different time depending on what you study. Don’t fret – you’ll get a timetable in plenty of time.
A Level Results Day In 2023
No matter what subjects you studied, who your exam board was or when you took your exam, the A Level results day will be the same regardless.
In 2023, this will be Thursday, August 17. This will be slightly different for those in Scotland, who will receive their SQA results on Tuesday, August 8.
Although you’ll be able to retrieve your results from your school when they open, UCAS would have been sent them directly as well. This means they’ll be able to update your hub about whether you’ve gotten into your chosen universities. This won’t have your exact grades on, but knowing this might be the most crucial part of the day.
Normally this will go live at 8:15 am, but remember that tens of thousands of students will be logging on to check, so it may take a little while to access.
You’ll still need to head to your school or college for your results, especially if you need to go through clearing. You’ll also have teachers there to support you and congratulate you for all your hard work!
It seems like a long way off now, especially with so many exams in-between, but it will be here before you know it. Soon, you’ll be thinking about decorating your uni room, as well as breaking the ice with your roommates!
