The time of year has come around when it’s time to do something a little goofy for a good cause. Just because you’ve moved to university doesn’t mean you can’t get involved either. We have some great ideas on how students can raise money through Comic Relief events and activities. But first, you’ll need to know when Red Nose Day 2023 is.

Comic Relief is almost upon us which will bring back happy yet embarrassing memories of getting involved at school. Now you’re at university, you might be a tad disappointed they’re aren’t any Red Nose Day 2023 activities organised. That doesn’t mean you can’t set some up of your own! We have a few ideas up our sleeve for how students can join in the fun and raise some money; after all, it’s for a good cause.

When Is Red Nose Day 2023?

This year, Red Nose Day falls on Friday, March 17. Any Irish people out there will know that it’s also St Paddy’s day on that date, which we think could just add to the fun even more.

Comic Relief has worked with the Mr Men and Little Miss this year to bring out some nostalgic merch all in the name of charity. You can get yourself a Mr Nosey tee, wearing a red nose of course, or a long sleeve top with all your favourites on. The clothing is available at TK Maxx in kids‘ and adults‘ sizing.

Also new for Red Nose Day 2023 is a revolutionary type of red nose. Long gone are the days of plastic pinching your nose, or that tennis ball smell lingering for days; red noses have stepped it up. In a collaboration with iPhone designers, the 2023 nose is not only made of paper but also folds into a compact crescent. When unfolded, it’s your usual spherical bright red icon, with a honeycomb paper pattern. Sure, we all associate wearing red noses with our school days, but there’s nothing stopping us from wearing these planet-friendly editions as adults.

Comic Relief Activities For University Students

Sure, some of the things you did to raise money as a kid doesn’t really work when you go to university. For example, the novelty of wearing your own clothes for a day wears off when every day is a non-school uniform. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can do for Red Nose Day 2023. Just make sure you’ve got permission for anything that requires space or a larger event.

A Nostalgic Red Nose Day Bake Sale

Nothing says raising money for charity like a bake sale. Go right back to your primary school days and get your class to make some fairy cakes, cookies and more. As well as a nostalgic tasty treat, you can always make your childhood favourites with a slight adult twist. Take Baileys cupcakes or rum cookies for example, a little something extra to make your bake sale more appealing to a university audience.

Fancy Dress

Seeing as you can’t go in non-uniform, you might as well dress up! You could do it with a theme, like school uniforms, or just let people come in wearing what they want. Charge everyone in your class a couple of pounds to dress up and your guaranteed a laugh.

A Disco Of Your Choice

There are so many options with this that you could take a poll on socials to decide what your class or year would prefer. Chat to your SU about when are where you could do it, and then charge for the tickets with profits going to Red Nose Day 2023. If you really try, you could even get some free drinks and even a DJ to get even higher profits. You could do a theme where people need to dress up, or even have a classic silent disco.

A Comedy Night For Comic Relief

It is Comic Relief, after all, so you could talk to any aspiring actors or stand-up comedians to organise a charity improv night and get amateur comedians onto the stage. Again, you’ll probably need to talk to your SU or student accommodation to get a venue, but just charge for tickets and see what you can do about drinks and you have a university event for Red Nose Day!

These are just some of the activities or events you could hold as a university student for Red Nose 2023. Try one of these or come up with something else entirely. Whatever you do, as long as you’re having fun and raising money, that’s all that matters! You have until March 17 to get yourself and your friends organised!
