Disney has finally dropped the trailer for the Star Wars spin-off Andor, but it has fans wondering who is Cassian Andor?

On August 1 the trailer for Andor, an original, 12-episode series from Lucasfilm, dropped ahead of its release on Disney+ on September 21. As with any good Star Wars trailer, it’s not only got fans intrigued, but left many with so many questions.

Disney+ Andor trailer drops

Set before the event of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Andor series explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make.

The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

The trailer introduces audiences to new characters such as Luthen Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgard. Although Luthen seems to be working for the Empire from the trailer, he’s clearly a double-spy of kinds trying to take it down from the inside.

Who is Cassian Andor?

For those who haven’t come across the titular character before you need to go back and watch Rogue One where fans first get to meet Andor, played by Diego Luna. In the movie, it’s explained he’s a high-level Rebel Intelligence officer who served under Mon Mothma.

He opposed the Empire long before he formally joined the Rebellion, though. ‘I’ve been in this fight since I was six years old,’ he told Jyn Erso, so it’s assumed the Disney+ series will touch on this.

During Rogue One he works with Jyn to get the blueprints and plans for the Death Star – which would become vitally important in the original Star Wars trilogy as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia would use them to destroy the planet-destroying base.

During the 2016 movie Andor strikes up a friendship with Jyn, however, if fans were hoping for a happy ending they’re out of luck as both Andor and Jyn perish when the Empire tests out the Death Star’s abilities – fans of Star Wars: A New Hope will remember it has the ability to destroy planets and everyone on it – and the pair face it straight on together, but not before they get the plans back to the other rebels and leave a legacy as heroes.
