Lots of us will be counting down the New Year by watching Sam Ryder Rocks New Year’s Eve tonight. Although they’ll be lots of familiar faces on there, some may be a little more unknown. If you’re watching and wondering who a certain performer is, then we can answer who is Sigrid as she joins the party.
New Year’s Eve is finally upon us which means that they’ll be lots of great television today and this evening to see us through to 2023. One of which will be Sam Ryder Rocks New Year’s Eve, which will see the Eurovision superstar welcome a number of guests to help sing in the New Year. It promises to be a real treat before the spectacle of the drone show.
Who Is Sigrid?
Sigrid is a 26-year-old singer-songwriter from Norway. The singer first rose to fame in 2013 with the release of her debut single, Sun. After it was played on several Norweigan radio stations, Sigrid was signed to Petroleum Records the following year.
In 2016, she released Don’t Kill My Vibe after being belittled by a music producer about her songwriting. The song attracted the attention of Island Records who immediately signed her. She then realised her debut EP of the same name which charted in Norway, Australia and the UK. In the same year, she appeared in many festivals, including Reading and Leeds before featuring on the Justice League soundtrack covering Leonard Cohen’s Everybody Knows.
In 2018, Sigrid won the BBC Music Sounds Award and Spellemannprisen’s Newcomer Of The Year. She then released her second EP, Raw, which featured 5 new tracks. Her first album, Suckerpunch, was released in 2019 and toured with Maroon 5 and George Ezra in the same year as a support act. She then headlined her own tour in North America and the UK.
Earlier this year, she released her second studio album, How to Let Go.
Sam Ryder Rocks New Year’s Eve
Sigrid will be just one of the talented guests joining Sam Ryder as they welcome the New Year and keep the party going. Other famous faces helping to party the night away are Spice Girls’ Mel C, The Darkness’ Justin Hartley and the House Gospel Choir.
The BBC also promises a few other surprises once the drone show has taken place at midnight. So, if you can stay up, they’ll be plenty of treats in store. Sam Ryder Rocks New Year’s Eve starts at 11:30 pm on BBC and finished at 00:45 ahead of The Big Eurovision Party.
Unfortunately, Sigrid has just finished her headline tour, so you may have to wait a little while to see her live. That being said, she will be performing with the Lumineers and Vance Joy in Dublin on June 2, 2023. \
The singer-songwriter did perform at Radio One’s Big Weekend earlier this year, so look out for some surprise gigs that may pop up throughout the year!
