Top Boy is back and fans may be wondering who plays Jaq in the show. Jasmine Jobson looks set to be the talk of the town for her outstanding portrayal of Dushane’s second in command. Jobson joined the show when it was resurrected for Netflix and, after a stellar first outing, she is now one of the most important and interesting characters. Here is everything we know about the actor.

Who is Jasmine Jobson?

Jobson is a 26-year-old actor from London who shot to fame in the role of Jaq in Top Boy. Her performance was so impressive that she was nominated for a Bafta.

When she auditioned for the role, she was asked to show more anger and took it out on a nearby chair. By nearly breaking a window, Jobson broke into acting and didn’t look back.

A best supporting actor Bafta nomination says all you need to know about Jobson’s acting ability. Based on the new season of Top Boy, she may well go one better next time and grab the gong.

Jobson starred in the film Surge, which premiered in 2020, and we can expect a lot more from her in the years to come.

While the pandemic has limited so much filming in recent times, the return to some form of normality means Jobson should be on plenty of screens.

A vulnerable side

At first glance Top Boy is a show dominated by male characters. However, that is far from the truth – especially in the fourth installment.

This show knows exactly what it is and we are about to see Jaq – and other female characters – come to the fore.

In a recent interview with Pop Sugar, Jobson spoke about the dual nature of her fascinating role.

‘Taking on a role in a heavily male-dominated industry, it’s definitely very important to make sure that Jaq is always seen at the top of her game. But I also believe that, as much as she needs to be a strong person, she’s also strong when she’s vulnerable, which you’ll see in this series.’

Home life

Jobson allegedly had a difficult childhood. As reported by the Guardian, she was labelled by social services as ‘the most difficult child in Westminster’.

After moving in with her grandmother, she later chose to enter the care system when she was a teenager. She went on to say it was one of the best things she ever did.

Things haven’t all been plain sailing on the acting front either. The Top Boy star missed out on a role in a Star Wars movie after getting down to the final two.

However, given Jobson’s performances in one of Netflix’s best shows, the future looks incredibly bright. One thing is for sure, everyone will soon know who plays Jaq in Top Boy.
