Why Cats Make The Best Pets

Charis Gambon March 25, 2022

I myself have a pet cat, a little tabby and cats seem to get a lot of hate as pets. Many people think that cats are incapable of loving you and they’re nuisances, but this is absolutely untrue. Here are just some of the reasons why cats make the best pets to hopefully dispel some of those myths about cats.

They’ll Keep Your House Pest-Free

Despite being domesticated pet cats still possess that hunter instinct much like their wild ancestors did. As a result, they will use this innate instinct to keep your home free of mice, rats and other pests.

They are Very Photogenic

You will find yourself taking photographs of every little thing that your cat does because you find them just so cute. Every adorable or silly thing they do you will be there with your camera or phone to take a picture of them. Sharing photos of your cat on social media will get you many likes as everyone loves pet photos.

They Have Playful Moods

Most cats, especially kittens, absolutely love to play. Buy your cat a ton of toys and play with them, they will absolutely love it if you do. Cats have an abundance of energy stored up – due not needing to hunt which – they often release it through playtime. They look very adorable or funny when they are playing with their toys which will certainly provide you will entrainment.

They are very intelligent

Cats are actually a lot smarter than people give them credit for. Cats are constantly learning and have an excellent memory. My own cat for example recently learnt to open door by door handles which she leant from watching people. The domestic house cat is attributed to having an IQ between 1–1.71. Just look at the late Street Cat Bob, he could use the toilet and high-five people.

They Groom Themselves

Cats posses the ability to groom themselves which means that unless they become quite mucky you will not have to groom them yourself. They groom themselves using their tongue and paws. Most cats pride themselves on their appearance and cleanliness and as a result will spend a significant amount of time grooming. It is however advisable to brush your cat occasionally due to shedding.

They are good for your health

Research has shown that cats possess the ability to  help lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of dying from a heart attack. Cats are not simply just cute they will also help you to remain healthy.

They Can Live for a Long Time

There are not many aspects in life which are more heart-breaking than losing a pet, which is why knowing that the average domestic cat has an average lifespan of about 15 years is incredibly comforting. You will get to spend a considerable amount of time with your cat.

They enjoy your company

Your cat actually enjoys your company considerably.  They will look to you for cuddles several times a day as they enjoy being close to you and spending time with you. You can also go on walks outside with your cat as they very much enjoy that.

They can talk with you

A cat can emit up to more than 60 meows, each with a specific meaning. You will certainly get to know what each meow from your cat means and will be able to have a conversation with them.

Cats are very sassy animals so you may even find yourself arguing with them. Kittens are the only cats that meow in the wild but domesticated cats continue to meow to people throughout their lives, probably because meowing gets people to do what they want.

Lastly, don’t forget to worm and flea your pets and make sure they attend regular vet checks – even if they don’t like the cat box, it’s for their best. Cat care tips can be found at the RSPCA.
