What to do next is the question on everyone’s mind as uni comes to an end, but we’re going to tell you why it’s ok to not know what you want to do after graduating.
In those final few weeks of University, the memories of the last few years are running through your mind and the future is looking like a big blank bob, right? It’s scary.
Your life has been so certain up until now. You’ve had the same friends, same lectures, same walk to the shops, go to the same student-y clubs. Your life is basically timetabled out for you. Leaving that behind and going into the real “adult world” can be terrifying.
However, you do not have to have it all figured out, no one really does even if it seems like it.
You’re still young
When you graduate from university, you are still so young. Although after living away from home for the first time you might feel like you’ve done a lot of growing up, you still at the beginning of your life. You have so much time to decide what it is you actually want to do.

You can travel
If savings allow it, the year after university is the perfect time to travel the world before you commit to a job. Go backpacking and experience life in different cultures.

As well as being extremely rewarding for you, this will also add to your life experience and be useful in job interviews. It might even help you decide what you love to do.
You can try different jobs
When you graduate, you’re not stuck in one career path forever. It’s not as finalising as it may seem. You have the chance to explore different jobs to find out what you really love. Especially if your degree is one that can apply to a multitude of jobs such as english or history.
Always wanted to work in a museum? Give it a go, if you hate it it’s not the end of the world. You can still become a teacher, historian, author, journalist etc. The list goes on. This is the time to try new things and it takes time, it’s not something you need to rush. You especially don’t need to rush into the first job you’re offered.
You’re not alone
Even if it seems like everyone else has their life together and future planned out, I can promise you most of them don’t. So many people will be feeling exactly how you are, and they probably think you have it all figured out. It’s so important to remember that you’re not deciding the whole rest of your life, you’re just choosing the next step and you can always change your mind. Have faith that you will end up where you are meant to be, and breathe.
