Selling Sunset Season Five is back next month, which means the return of Romain. I know, I know, the show is all about glamorous real estate agents and multi-million-dollar listings. It’s about the love lives of Chrishell, Heather, Christine et al. But another star has slowly crept into the spotlight since the show launched in 2019. And his name is Romain Bonnet.
In the early episodes, Mary’s then-boyfriend seemed surly and standoffish. In a show where emotions are laid bare, it was impossible to read him. And some viewers were unsure what to make of this French pastry chef turned model.
As the show grew into a phenomenon, Romain came out of his shell. And we soon realized that he is, quite simply, a G.
Who is Romain Bonnet?
Romain is currently a Wilhelmina model and a Project Manager for White Gloves Estates. The latter is an interior design studio, proving that Bonnet has plenty of strings to his bow.
He has been in Selling Sunset since the first episode and is now married to Mary Fitzgerald, who is one of the Oppenheim Group’s most successful and well-known realtors.
Romain and Mary’s wedding was a key moment in the second season of the show, and it was during the sophomore run that the groom really came into his own.
Why do we love Romain?
In short, he doesn’t take crap from anyone. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind and, at his core, he is incredibly principled.
When he was unfairly belittled for his choice of engagement ring by Mary’s colleague, Davina Potratz, he didn’t shrink into the background – as some would have expected from his earlier appearances on the show. Instead, he stood up for himself in a thoughtful and (relatively) understated way.
Selling Sunset doesn’t hide it’s bitchiness. In fact, it is one of the reasons characters like Christine have become household names. But Romain wasn’t about to be an undeserving target.
He stood up for himself and, from then on, didn’t waver when it came to his thoughts on Davina. He played the hero to her villain and he never lost his composure.
He also plays the role of the audience, watching some bizarre interactions with the same look and lowkey responses most of us would. In a show that has been questioned in the past for its realism, Romain plays it straight.
From seemingly bit-part character to major player, we can’t wait to see more of Romain when Selling Sunset season five airs from April 22 2022.
