People put off travelling for many reasons: to pursue career goals, seek financial stability or start a family. And one day you wake up with silver hair ready to board a cruise ship. That’s just how it goes, right? Well, if you’re in your early twenties and daydream about leaving it all behind, then look no further. Here are some reasons to travel while you’re young.
To gain independence
Nothing offers independence like exploring new places and countries on your own. Travelling by yourself will give you more of an insight into yourself and who you are. There’s a reason people travel to ‘find themselves’.
Connections and opportunities
Travelling provides so many opportunities and the chance to connect with people from all over the world. It’s a perfect chance to find new people on your wavelength. Especially if you don’t have those people at home. A switch in environment can give you the motivation to pursue these opportunities and connections.

There’s less holding you back
Generally speaking, younger people have less responsibilities. As you age, people and possessions may seem like a heavier weight, making it hard to leave. In your early twenties you can appreciate the freedom to explore without feeling any guilt.
You’re physically fitter
You will most likely feel physically better now than in your sixties. Without underestimating how much older people are able to do, you’ll be fitter to take on any physical challenges travelling has to offer.
It’s cheaper
Roughing it is a lot easier when you’re young! Staying in hostels, finding new people to travel with and sharing resources is a lot cheaper than staying in an all-inclusive hotel. Sure you’ll still have to save money. But this will also offer you a better financial perspective.

Convinced? Then grab a backpack and go. If you’re solo travelling make sure to do your research. Start by checking out this guide to travelling alone.
