We all grew up with High School Musical and knew all the lyrics to every song, singing our hearts out as if we were Gabriella and Troy ourselves. While the youth of today will only be familiar with the Olivia Rodrigo series of High School Musical, we spent our childhoods with the OG Wildcat cast, starring Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron.
Zac’s career has grown from strength to strength ever since but could now be the time for the star to return to his roots? A recent post of his prompts us to think so.
Zac Efron in High School Musical
Many fans first became acquainted with the Hollywood star during his days in the Disney movies, first premiering in 2006. He played the loveable basketball player, Troy Bolton, who battled with his passion for music and his father’s dreams of him becoming a basketball superstar.
There were three films in the franchise, all following the love story of high school students Troy and Gabriella.
Of course, there were many other characters that gave the series it’s reputation – Sharpay and Ryan cannot go unmentioned – but there was something about Troy that people were just drawn to. He was a guy that could do it all – being both musically talented and a sporting star in the making!
Whilst the original film series ended in 2008, seeing Zac Efron put his basketball days behind him, Efron’s career in HSM was the making of him.
He soon starred in major films such as Baywatch and The Greatest Showman, now holding an extensive repertoire of work.
Zac Efron Returns to the High School Musical Set
Over on Instagram, Zac shared a nostalgic photo to his 54.2 million followers (22nd July, 2022).
To many fans’ surprise, the star had returned to the set of HSM, posing outside of East High.
The caption read: “Don’t you… Forget about me,” a reference to the movie, The Breakfast Club.
Bart Johnson, who played Coach Bolton in the films, commented: “Warms coaches ole heart to see this. Welcome home, son. WHAT TEAM!?”
High School Musical Series’ Instagram page also shared their view on the photo stating, “Once a wildcat, always a wildcat.’
With references like these and Season 3 of HSM: The Musical: The Series set to air on 27th July, fans are wondering whether Zac may make an appearance in one of the upcoming episodes.
Referencing Vanessa Hudgens’ post from a few weeks ago, standing in the same spot, one fans exclaimed: “FIRST VANESSA NOW ZAC!!! WE NEED HSM4′
Another shared similar thoughts, commenting: ‘Reunion? HSM4??? What does this mean?!!!”
Is HSM4 on the way?
Whilst fans have been speculating that HSM4 is coming, the truth is nobody knows for certain what is going on.
All we know so far is that both Vanessa and Zac have returned to the set recently and that means that something has to be going on.
Whether that’s a reunion, a new movie, a cameo in the series or ‘the start of something new’ (if you know, you know) is yet to be confirmed.
