After purchasing coins, users then pick the virtual gift that they want to send. On TikTok, these come in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways, from pandas to drama queens and universes.
If you wanted to send your favourite creator a drama queen, then that would cost you 5,000 coins. The lowest amount of coins that can be bought is 40 for 49p.

How Do TikTok Gifts Become Money?
To earn money from receiving gifts, TikTok creators must have 1000 followers and go live on the app. Once they are streaming, it’s then down to their fans whether to send them gifts or not.
Unfortunately, the coins spent on a gift don’t directly transfer as real money. So, the 5,000 coins spent on a drama queen doesn’t give the creator £5,000.
When creators receive gifts, they then have to trade them in for diamonds. They then receive the equivalent amount of diamonds to coins spent. However, the diamonds are worth 0.5 cent each and then have to be exchanged via PayPal or something similar. All in all, creators will receive around half the amount that you spent on coins for the gift.
How Much Is a Universe on TikTok?
A universe gift is worth over £400 (before commission) which is 35,000 coins in the app. However, if you are to purchase coins online then you get a slightly better deal. On the website, 30,000 coins would only cost you £363, saving just under £40.

Remember though, it’s quite a lot of money to pay when the creator will only receive about £200.
