Everybody likes to have a little bit of a snoop on people’s social media. Similarly, we like to keep track of who has been looking at our profiles. Whilst some sites don’t offer this feature, one of the most popular does. We explain the TikTok profile view history feature and how to turn it off and on within the app.
Seeing who’s been looking at our profiles can send us down a rabbit hole of ‘who, what, where and why.’ However, that doesn’t stop us from wanting to know. On the flip side, if everyone else could see when we were checking out their profile it might put us off from social media stalking.
Although Instagram and others don’t have the feature, thankfully, TikTok has a profile view history. Even more, thankfully, they have a way to turn it off as well.
Does TikTok Show Who Viewed Your Profile? Feature Explained
The feature lets you see which accounts have viewed your profile in the last 30 days. However, it only works if both you and the account looking at your profile have profile view history turned on.
So, the account that has been looking at your profile needs the future turned on for you to be notified. It also works the other way; by having TikTok profile views turned on, other accounts will see when you’ve been snooping.
There’s no way to have it one way without the other, no matter what any third-party apps tell you. Profile view history is a blessing and a curse and it may be best to leave it off if you’re known for your social media stalking, even if you do want to know who’s checked out your profile.
How To Turn Off TikTok Profile Views
If you’ve made the decision to turn the feature off, then we don’t blame you. Nobody wants to be obsessing over who’s looking at their account. Even worse, you don’t want to receive that dreaded ‘Why were you looking at my profile?’ text.
Luckily, there are a couple of super simple ways to turn it off so you don’t have to worry.
If the feature is already turned on, then just head to your profile and click the 3 lines in the top corner. Go to Settings and Privacy, tapping Privacy and then Profile views. Here you can toggle whether you want it on or off, with it automatically being turned off.
To turn it off from your profile views page, just go to your inbox. Tap any of the notifications of when someone has viewed your profile and then head to settings in the top right corner. From here, you’ll also be able to turn profile views on or off.
How To Use The Feature
If you’ve decided to have it on, then you’ll get notified whenever someone views your profile. Notifications will last for 30 days unless you clear them.
Only accounts with 5000 followers or less can see their profile views. Understandably, bigger accounts will get lots of people checking them out, so the notifications would never stop.
You also need to be over 16 to see TikTok profile views.
The feature comes with a lot of power but may also keep your snooping in check from now on. However you want to use it, at least you now know how it works and how to turn it on and off.
