Our Top Picks On Who Will Be The New Bake Off Host As Matt Lucas Leaves The Tent

Jasmyne Jeffery December 7, 2022

After host Matt Lucas announced that he would be leaving the Great British Bake Off tent, we take a look at our favourites to become the new Bake Off host.

The Great British Bake Off fans were left saddened yesterday (December 6) after Matt Lucas announced that he would not be returning to the show. However, the show must go on and a new Bake Off host must be found. Here are our favourites to take over in the tent.

Matt Lucas Leaves Bake Off Leaving Space For A New Bake Off Host

Yes, the comedian announced on social media yesterday that his time in the tent was over.

Owing to other commitments, Matt parts with The Great British Bake Off to work on Sky’s Fantasy Football League. The host of three series is bowing out after taking over from Sandi Tosskig, who left the show in 2020.

Thanking all those who have been involved, he looks forward to being able to watch the show the way it’s meant to be.

Who Might The New Bake Off Host Be?

No official announcement has been made about who the new host of Bake Off will be, but whoever it is will be joining veteran host Noel Fielding who isn’t leaving the show.

Noel has hosted the show since it was taken over by Channel 4 in 2017 and will be hoping that the next host will have just as good a connection with him as well as the bakers.

Fans of the show have already started speculating about who the new Bake Off host is, and we’ve gathered our favourite candidates.

Joe Lycett

The comedian and presenter became the bookies’ choice immediately after Matt’s announcement. Incredibly popular, particularly after his stint on Taskmaster and his consumer show Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back.

This wouldn’t be Joe’s first venture into The Great British… world, as he has hosted The Great British Sewing Bee on BBC 2 since 2019. He would definitely be a great choice in the tent and work great with Noel Fielding’s cooky comedy.

Nadiya Hussain

One of the most famous Bake Off winners, Nadiya won the show in 2015 when it was still on BBC 1. Since her achievement she’s gone from strength to strength, releasing multiple cookbooks and landing several presenting gigs.

The bakers would certainly connect with Nadiya as the new Bake Off host, having been in their exact position. She’d offer a gentle touch whilst also giving us all that charisma that the general public loves her for.

The only problem — would she make a better judge if either Paul or Prue were to leave? In the meantime, we still think she would make an excellent Bake Off host.

Stacey Solomon

This might not be where your mind first went, but it’s actually more likely than you think. Stacey has gone on to present loads since she rose to fame after appearing on X-Factor and she’s become a common face on our screens.

What gives Stacey the edge is that she’s hosted something very similar before…

Currently, Stacey hosts Bake Off: The Professionals with Bake off alumni Liam Charles. This is the sister show to The Great British Bake Off, so making the switch doesn’t seem very far-fetched. She’s an incredibly popular face and would be a great balance to Noel Fielding.

Tom Allen

In the same vein as Stacey Solomon, Tom Allen is another potential candidate to be the new Bake Off host. Like Stacey, he hosted Bake Off: The Professionals up until the seventh series. His co-hosting with Liam was largely praised for bringing warmth and humour to the show — now they sound like the perfect skills to host the regular Bake Off!

Not only that but he hosted the 2020 Christmas special of The Great British Bake Off when Noel couldn’t. Plus, he’s a regular on Extra Slice, the follow-up show to the main series.

Tom is a firm fan favourite and would go down excellently if he were made the new Bake Off host!
