Stutz is a documentary that chronicles the career of Dr. Phil Stutz and how his teachings have been so successful to clients such as Hill. In kind of reverse roles, Hill questions his therapist on his own mental health issues throughout his life and wonders how he overcame and coped with them.
Stutz describes the ‘tools’ that he gives to his clients, which include visualising pathways to and from anxiety and depression. To best understand Stutz’s ‘tools’, he draws pictures to help explain, which signpost the documentary.

Stutz was released on 14 November 2022 and it already has rave reviews across multiple platforms.
The documentary has garnered a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
One critic writes, ‘Jonah Hill’s attempt at sharing a form of healing is an admirable one and he has a partner in Phil Stutz that is every bit the interesting subject as we become the listeners in the role of both patient and therapist ourselves.’
Another writes that it is ‘oddly comforting to see Hill, an actor about whom I was previously ambivalent, seem so truly at ease with himself.’
Nick Allen for Roger Ebert awards Stutz a solid three stars calling it ‘gently powerful’ and ‘transformational’.
Allen writes that the beginning of the documentary is ‘stuffy’ and ‘distracting’. However, once Hill begins to get more honest with the audience, he labels it ‘liberating’ and ‘poignant’.
