If you’re a student heading to one of the top universities on a competitive course, this might have been a nerve-wracking morning for you. Or, you might be a little confused if you’ve only heard about it in passing from friends. We have everything you need to know about the BMAT results for 2022.

This morning (November 25), the BMAT results for 2022 were released to thousands of students who eagerly anticipated their results. Used to separate the elite from the top-performing students, the results help decide who gets into the top universities.

What Are The BMAT Results?

BMAT stands for BioMedical Admissions Test and is used by a small number of universities in the UK to identify the best students for their most competitive courses. The tests are typically used for those applying for either a medical, veterinary, biomedical science or dentistry degree.

BMAT composes of three separately scored sections: Thinking skills, scientific knowledge and application and a writing test.

Which Universities Use BMAT?

There are only seven universities in the UK that use the test, but two of those are Oxbridge. Here is the full list:

A number of other universities use UCAT, the University Clinical Aptitude Test. This is a 2-hour long computer-based test and measures whether applicants have the attitude, mental ability and professionalism needed to thrive. It’s more than likely that if you want to study in one of the above areas that either a BMAT or UCAT is required.

What Is A Good BMAT Score?

The average BMAT result is around 5.0, however, if you want to get into a top university then it will probably need to be higher than that. A good BMAT score is 6.0, with exceptional students scoring around 7.0.

If you didn’t do as well as you hoped then it’s not the end of the world. Although good BMAT results would definitely help your application, universities consider lots of other factors too.

In 2021, only 15 per cent of those who took the test had a BMAT result of 6.0 or above for section 1. For section 2, those were even lower at around 10 per cent. When results are like this, what is considered a good score is adjusted a little, like when exam boards change grade boundaries depending on what percentage got what mark. If a whole year group scored particularly low, then a good BMAT score would be lowered.

If you are waiting for your results, then good luck! Remember, there are plenty of ways to get onto your desired degree, even if your results aren’t what you wanted.
