The picture-posting app are have released a new feature, and it’s very in keeping with the times. Starting this week, but only available to some, you’ll be seeing Snapchat’s My AI about. A new chatbot feature, we explain what it is.
Everyone wants a piece of the AI pie, and social media is looking to be no different. Snapchat are rolling out their new chatbot, which works with GPT technology, to some users this week. Let’s take a look at what the feature actually is.
What Is Snapchat My AI?
As explained by the Snapchat Newsroom, My AI is a chatbot that users can use to suggest gifts, plan trips, suggest recipes and a lot more.
Essentially, you ask it a question and it will give you a typical artificial intelligence answer. This can be super helpful for quick ideas, but the app has already warned that it’s not perfect. The feature is basically ChatGPT in your pocket, but aiming to be a lot safer and won’t write any essays for school either.
“Please be aware of its many deficiencies and sorry in advance!”
Snapchat also recommends that you don’t share your deepest darkest issues with My AI. The app will be using messages sent to the chatbot to review the feature and help improve it. SO, if you don’t want some random engineer knowing about your personal problems, we’d keep them to your loved ones instead.
Equally, Snapchat warns that although the feature shouldn’t say anything offensive or harmful, it can still happen. f you receive a message that doesn’t seem right, you can immediately send it for feedback by holding the message down. My AI has been developed according to Snapchat’s safety guidelines and rules of service, so responses shouldn’t be graphic or contain swearing. It also won’t give opinions on politics, so don’t ask it who to vote for.
Where the ‘My AI’ comes in, is that it’s for the personal use of each user. You can even name the chatbot and customise its appearance.
Not a lot else is known about the feature, including when it will be rolled out to all Snapchat users.
Who Can Use The Snapchat Chatbot?
Currently, only Snapchat+ subscribers will be able to your the AI feature. My AI will start appearing for premium users this week (February 28). As it’s only experimental, it’s possible it won’t be more widely distributed if the feedback isn’t good.
However, CEO Evan Spiegel told The Verge that they eventually want all users to have it.
“The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day.”
For those who are excited by the prospect, you can pay for Snapchat+ and have My AI by the end of the week. However, if you’re reluctant, then it’s probably best to wait it out and see how it goes down.
