Though many are too busy taking their exams to think about the endpoint, it isn’t that far away. We tell you when GCSE results day is in 2023, as well as how it works and what you can expect.
Today marks the end of most of Year 11’s first week of exams. The next four weeks will be filled with taking their GCSEs and revising for their next paper. However, it’s only a mere few months until their results day will be upon them and they’ll finally know the outcome of all their hard work.
When Is GCSE Results Day 2023?
GCSE results day will happen on Thursday, August 24 in 2023.
This year is the first since COVID that examinations and results collection will be happening as usual. Before now, different accommodations had to be made to take in the extra stress of the pandemic on students. However, now things are back to normal in schools, meaning exams and results day should be a typical experience.
Unfortunately, this also means they’ll be no pandemic leniencies when it comes to marking!
If you’re already concerned about how well an exam might have gone, there is always the option of resitting. This year, Maths and English retakes will happen in November. All other subjects will be taken with the next GCSE exam season in 2024.

How Results Day Works And What To Expect
Telling students not to worry about their results is a kindness, but it is also a little redundant. Anyone who cares will be nervous for at least a few days running up to collecting their marks.
However, knowledge is power and being as prepared as possible for the big day may help ease those worries.
Your school should inform you what time their open and where you will collect your results from. However, they’ll be plenty of students double-checking, so don’t be afraid to give them a ring or check in with a preferred teacher. They’ll more than likely be information on their website and they may even post about it on their Facebook page.
How you open your results is up to you. Decide beforehand whether you’ll be going in with parents, friends, or if you’d rather open them yourself. There’s no obligation to open them at school either. You could do it in the privacy of the car with your mum and dad, or even back home. Just be prepared for your friends to nag you about how you did!
It’s possible you may need a form of identification to pick up your results as it’s a legal document. So, ensure you’ve got a passport or something similar to prove who you are. It’s unlikely you’ll forget your phone, but it’s important so you can call/text loved ones and take some all-important photos on the day.
If you’re a little nervous about all the people, we recommend heading it as soon as the school opens, or just as they’re closing. It’s the holidays, so many won’t be up very early and most won’t want to wait until the end of the day either!
Your results will be there no matter what you decide, so do what’s best for you on GCSE results day 2023.
You can even have them emailed or posted to you if you’d rather not go in at all. Just ensure to arrange this with your school with plenty of time.
