The first-ever U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be taking place in January 2023 and has been described as the “ultimate finishing school for future female stars of our game.”
Held in South Africa, the tournament will feature 16 teams separated into four for the group stages.
Continuing with the theme of firsts, Rwanda and Indonesia will make their debut as ICC World Cup participants at any level. Rwanda fought for the final spot in the tournament, beating out Tanzania to join England, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe in Group B.

Where is the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup being held?
The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held between January 14 and 29 in South Africa.
Matches will take place in Benoni and Potchefstroom, while the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Paarl, Cape Town, and Gqeberha.
The venues in Benoni are Willowmoore Park and Willowmoore Park B, and the venues in Potchefstroom are the PJB Marks Oval and North West University Oval.
‘This is a special time for women’s cricket in South Africa’
Tournament director, Russell Adams said: “We’re thrilled to announce the three cities to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.”
Describing the Eastern and Western Cape as “prime cricket and tourist locations with great facilities and infrastructure,” Adams said: “We have no doubt that these venues will step up to make this a memorable and uniquely African celebration of cricket for the local and international fans attending the event.”
Meanwhile, U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Tournament Director, Sivuyile Mqingwana dubbed the tournament a “special time for women’s cricket in South Africa.”
Mqingwana said: “We are excited to be host of the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup and look forward to the spotlight focusing on the world’s best cricketers.”
