Lewys Ball has been announced as part of this year’s lineup for the BBC’s fundraising event for Children In Need, The Great SPOTacular, alongside a host of other celebrity attendees. If you’re not familiar with Lewys Ball already, here is a look back at his career thus far and how he rose to fame.

Who is Lewys Ball?

Lewys Ball, also known by the handle LookingForLewys, is a YouTuber, actor, presenter and singer. He posts makeup tutorials, fashion content and lifestyle vlogs amongst a host of other videos on his YouTube channel to an audience of 517,000 subscribers.

He spoke in an interview with the BBC about showing his ‘unglamorous side’ as an influencer and aiming to make videos that people his age can relate to, rather than upholding an aspirational standard of flawless beauty and poise. This strategy has garnered him quite a bit of success on the platform, with some of his more popular videos breaking over a million views. Due to this success, Ball became the first male spokesmodel for Rimmel London at age 17.

Lewys Ball began posting videos of family pets at just 8 or 9 years old, proceeding to document his experience of primary school. He began his current channel in 2013 and uploaded regularly throughout his teen years. His subject matter and style of videos evolved as he grew up, but one thing that has stayed consistent is that he has always targeted videos toward shared experiences of those within his age group.

He moved from discussing school and A-level results to documenting his experience of university. The casual chat style of content has allowed Lewys’s channel has become a place for his viewers to feel at home.

When is Children In Need 2022?

The BBC’s annual fundraising event supporting Children In Need, also known as Pudsey Day, will be broadcast on Friday, November 18 at 7pm, and can be watched later on iPlayer. The event will feature prize draws, sketches, entertainment, music and dance.

The event has been a huge success in the past, drawing a significant viewership. Last year’s appeal was able to raise a total of £51 million. The donations fund efforts to support the wellbeing of children across the UK, foster positive relationships in their lives, and provide them opportunities to flourish on equal footing.
