There are so many ways to send messages these days, that it’s bound to go wrong sometimes. Be it sending a dodgy typo to your boss, or accidentally DMing the person you were talking about in your text. Since it came on the scene, TikTok has taken over the internet. That means sending texts on there too. If it’s gone wrong on the app, we answer if you can ‘unsend’ a TikTok message by deleting it.

Ever since social media and smartphones came around, contacting your friends has been easier than ever. Even before that, we had emails to use in our personal and work lives too. So the odd messaging faux-pas definitely isn’t a recent thing.

Over the years, some apps, such as Whatsapp, have introduced features where you can unsend a message. If you made a mistake in sending it, then you can delete it and the recipient won’t know what was said.

TikTok has only increased in popularity since its release in 2016 and now has a DM feature for chatting so you can chat with friends, share your favourite videos, or even the most popular TikTok songs of 2023 so far.

The only problem there is how to rectify a mistake if you make one.

Deleting A TikTok DM Is An Option

The app does let you delete any message that you’ve sent from your device if you want to get rid of it.

All you have to do is find the chat and the message that was an error. Hold down on the message until the pop-up menu appears and select ‘Delete’.

This will then remove it from the chat on your end. Bear in mind that the recipient can still the message as it was only deleted on your device. This won’t unsend the message completely.

Can You Unsend A TikTok Message?

No, you cannot unsend a TikTok message once it’s been sent. Even if it hasn’t been read, you can’t completely remove it from the chat, no matter how bad what you accidentally said is. This is the case for text and videos that you’ve sent. TikToks sent would only become unavailable if the original poster decided to delete it.

It is possible that a feature like this could become available in the future. Only recently the app introduced TikTok Now, which you can fully delete, so it’s definitely not off the cards. However, it doesn’t look like there are any current plans, so users could be waiting a while.

For the time being, TikTok fans will just have to be super careful when sending DMs. Our top tips are to always check who you’re sending it to and to do a quick read-through before clicking send. By doing both of those, you’ll prevent any serious mistakes and embarrassment.
