Starting up a new exercise can be hard sometimes; there are so many that you just don’t know where to start! Here are eight types for you to try to see what could be a good fit for you.
Yoga
Experience the benefits of regular Yoga practice – including flexibility, core strength and balance. If you’re not up to attending a class in person, there are plenty of channels on YouTube to start your Yoga journey.
Weightlifting
My personal favourite type of exercise: if you want to get stronger, gain muscle and feel all around more confident. Start out by learning the correct form for basic exercises and just start! This type of exercise is all about basic movements and repeating your routine to improve. If you like the idea of being able to lift heavy in the gym, this may be you!

Hiking
Possibly on of the most underestimated forms of exercise, but walking is incredibly beneficial for your health. Hiking or even a brisk walk van really benefit your cardiovascular system. It’s a great social activity and and an easy one to start moving more straight away.
Dance
You don’t need to be a professional dancer to enjoy a dance class after leaving school! Dance is an excellent form of fitness, and it’s fun! Zumba, ballet, pole dance, hiphop, street, contemporary, the list is endless. Try out a class and see if it might be something you enjoy.

Pilates
Pilates is a great exercise to begin doing. Like Yoga, it is a lot of core work and balance, but with faster movement and even more burn for your muscles. There are different types and levels of Pilates, such as reformer Pilates, which involves a lot more equipment. However, once again, you can start Pilates with nothing but yourself and a YouTube video to follow. Perfect to try starting your fitness journey!
Team sports
If you prefer to be around a lot of people when you exercise, team sports may be for you. Rugby, football, hockey etc. There are plenty of societies at Uni which you could join to start these sports. Even if you don’t want

Swimming
This type of exercise is amazing for people who want something which is easier on the joints. The resistance of the water helps all of your muscles get stronger and it’s also excellent cardio!
Boxing
Boxing is another endorphin-releasing sport which can really make you sweat! This is also a good one for people who want to get their frustration out. Boxing classes can be for anyone; whether you want to take it seriously and try for a match or you just want a fitness class, you should have a go to see if this kind of exercise is for you.
