Though they’re now commonplace across social media, Snapchat were the one to introduce stories. Changing it up, they’re revolutionising how it works on the app with Snapchat After Dark stories. Don’t worry, it’s not as sinister as it sounds. Here’s what it is and how it works.
Snapchat stories have pretty much stayed the same since the app launched, but they’ve gone on to pretty much every other social media app. Lasting only 24 hours, they’re a great way of sharing snippets of your life without worrying that they’ll stick around forever or take up space on your grid.
However, the ghost-face app is now changing how it works with a new After Dark feature.
What Is Snapchat After Dark Stories?
Snapchat explains that After Dark stories are simply stories that are posted after 8 pm in your time zone.
Stories will get a special moon badge, indicating they were posted later on in the evening. They still work the same as regular posts that disappear after 24 hours, but now you get a moon icon, similar to that on Instagram.
Perhaps ‘revolutionary’ was a little strong for the new feature, but the After Dark section will let you see what everyone was up to during the night.
Snapchat After Dark is available to all and doesn’t require a Snapchat+ subscription like the solar system planet order feature originally did.
Snapchat has also added a Community section to the app, a feature working exclusively with schools. Students will be able to share notes, perspectives and more for everyone in the community to view and use. Unfortunately, this isn’t a feature that can be used by all and it is just for schools.
How Does Snapchat After Dark Work?
The After Dark feature is next to the rest of stories on Snapchat. To add to it, simply click it and add your post, making sure that it’s after 8 pm until the end of the night.
What you post is up to you; there isn’t a specification as to what can go in the tab, as long as it’s ‘After Dark’. It could be some snaps from a party, late-night studying or whatever you’re getting up to.
If you like to be in bed early, then the tab will always be available and you can see what everyone else did whilst you were sleeping.
The Feature Gets Mixed Reactions From Users
Sharing their thoughts on Twitter, many aren’t overly impressed with the new feature.
It seems like some thought it was going to be something else and so the reveal has been a tad underwhelming.
Many are just confused by it, but perhaps users will warm to it in time.
However, lots more are happy that Snapchat has brought back memories, allowing users to share pictures that they saved with friends in the past.
Just be prepared to be shocked at how much time has passed!
It seems the new releases are getting mixed reactions, but you’ll have to try them out yourself to make your own judgement!
