Burnout can come in many different forms and can really take its toll on your life. But to tackle it you’ve got to work out what educational and emotional burnout is, from then you do your best to deal with it.
For many people, especially students, working from home during the pandemic blurred boundaries between home and work making it much harder to switch and realise when we are headed for burnout.
How to deal with burnout
What Is Educational Burnout?
School, college, university or any educational environment can be stressful. And when you are trying to balance your work, your social life, and maybe even a job and a family, it can become tiring and overwhelming.
This kind of burnout can cause stress, anxiety and exhaustion that can be reflected in your educational results. If left to get worse, this can also affect your physical and mental well-being.
How To Combat Educational Burnout
If everything is getting too much, consider applying some of these tips to help ease the load.
Talk To Someone
It is said time and time again, but finding someone you trust to talk to can really help ease the burden of things on your mind.
Whether it is a roommate, a friend, a family member or someone at your school/campus, being able to be totally honest about your situation could lead to someone giving you the exact help and guidance you need.
Sleep
We’ve all heard about ‘all-nighters’, maybe you’ve even done a few yourself, but sleep is more important than anything.
It may seem counterintuitive to sleep and not get your work done for the next day, but even just getting a few hours of sleep can mean that you will perform better on the work in the morning. Sleep exhaustion will 100% affect your grades in the long run.

Gap Year
If everything is just coming at you all too quickly and you need to slow down, there is nothing wrong with taking a gap year.
You can use this year to get some money under your belt before going off to university or finding a career path.
You can go travelling and explore the world before settling down.
Or you can simply take the time to figure out what you want from life and how you see your future panning out.
What Is Emotional Burnout?
Emotional burnout or exhaustion can arise when multiple things in your life come together to create stress, anxiety and/or uncertainty. This kind of burnout can see you becoming unmotivated, nervous, and angry and increase the likelihood of headaches and trouble sleeping.
Burnout of any kind can leave you feeling trapped or helpless as it can come from things in your life such as family matters, your job or financial issues.
How To Combat Emotional Burnout
Here are some tips to help alleviate this kind of burnout.
Exercise
Exercise is not done just to lose weight or to get fit, it can actually help improve your mood. Physical activities release endorphins and boost your serotonin levels which make you happier and can take your mind off other negative issues.
This tip can also include eating healthily and limiting your alcohol intake as these things can affect your mental well-being.

Mindfulness
Many people write off mindfulness as a waste of time, but it has been scientifically proven that it can reduce anxiety and stress levels.
Mindfulness can be accessed in many different ways: Yoga, meditation, walking, journaling, and breathing exercises.
Take Time Away
Whether this is a small holiday or just time spent at home without work or outside noise, time to yourself is underrated.
Make sure to cut time out for yourself to do something you like, without the children, without checking your emails, just you doing something you love. This can give you some much-needed R&R.
