Lots of students want to attend the best universities in the country, and that list has just changed. If you’re thinking about where you’ll apply for 2024, there is a new top ten for you to consider.
Complete University Guide 2024 Updates Top Ten Universities
Though some of these have stayed in the same position, some universities have climbed the ranks, whilst others have fallen down the list.
10. Lancaster University:
Making it into the top ten for 2024 is Lancaster University. This year, it beat out Warwick University to claim the prized spot and gets an overall score of 84 per cent. Here is its individual section breakdown:
- Entry standards: 72 per cent
- Student satisfaction: 80 per cent
- Research quality: 84 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 79 per cent
9. University College of London:
One of the few universities to stay in the same spot they achieved in 2023 is UCL. You’re guaranteed to find this is the Complete University Guide’s top ten, but it’s not the highest scorer in London.
Getting an overall mark of 86 per cent, let’s see how it achieved it:

- Student satisfaction: 78 per cent
- Research quality: 87 per cent

8. Durham University:
Though still in the top ten for 2024, Durham University has slipped two places this year as its overall mark couldn’t beat the three above it. Scoring 88 per cent, here are its categories broken down:
- Entry standards: 87 per cent
- Standards satisfaction: 78 per cent
- Research quality: 83 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 86 per cent
7. Loughborough University: 89 per cent
Another one sticking to its position is Loughborough University, getting a very respectable seventh place. But it’s also with the two above it with an overall score of 89 per cent. However, some of its areas open to critique didn’t mark quite as highly

6. Imperial College London:
Now this is the top-scoring university in London, just missing out on a top five positive on the Complete University Guide 2024 list. This is a position it had secured this year, but unfortunately, it falls a little short this year.
With 89 per cent overall, here is how it fared this year:

- Student satisfaction: 79 per cent
- Research quality: 91 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 96 per cent
The Top Five Universities For 2024
5. University of Bath:
The University of Bath has had a great year, claiming three places in 2024 to claim a spot in the top five universities in the UK. It gets a very respectable 89 per cent overall, the last of the list to get a mark in the 80s.

- Student satisfaction: 80 per cent
- Research quality: 83 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 91 per cent
4. University of St Andrews:
Stepping it up slightly is yet another Russell Group, but this one makes it into the 90s with an overall score of 92 per cent. The University of St Andrews is also the only one from Scotland to make the list, meaning it’s the best in the country. Here are its scores broken down:
- Entry standards: 100 per cent
- Student satisfaction: 84 per cent
- Research quality: 83 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 83 per cent
Into The Best Three
3. London School of Economics and Politics:
Now we have the highest-ranking university in London; unsurprisingly the London School of Economics and Politics. This is also the last on the list to stay in the same place on the Complete University Guide 2024 as last year. Making it into the top three, it hasn’t quite done enough to get any higher.
With an overall score of 95 per cent, here’s how it scores in the categories:

- Student satisfaction: 78 per cent
- Research quality: 88 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 87 per cent
2. University of Oxford:
If you know where this one was placed last year, then you’ll know which university is the best university in the UK for 2024. Yes, the University of Oxford is in second place and absolutely no one is surprised it got such a high ranking. Considered one of the best in the world, it gets an almost unbeatable overall score of 98 per cent.
Though it doesn’t get a student satisfaction mark, here are Oxford’s others:

- Research quality: 97 per cent
- Graduate prospects: 90 per cent
The Best University In The UK For 2024
And now into the new best university in the UK. After getting second place last year, the Complete University Guide 2024 has declared the University of Cambridge the top institution. With an overall score of 100 per cent, it’s clearly a great choice for any student. Just be warned the process is pretty competitive. Like Oxford, it doesn’t get a student satisfaction score, but it gets very good marks elsewhere:
