ChatGPT is an AI programme that is being hailed as a game-changer when it comes to generating content. Created by OpenAI, ChatGPT launched in November 2022 and quickly became the go-to platform for AI content.

Users can type in any command or question and the AI will quickly create a response. This has raised some questions regarding school, college and university work. Not least because some students may simply ask ChatGPT to write their work for them.

In response, some universities have embraced ChatGPT as a research tool while others have banned its use altogether.

OpenAI recently announced the arrival of its latest update – GPT-4 – which can now process up to 25,000 words in response to a question or request. That is a full eight-times as any as the previous incarnation and shows just how far this can ultimately go.

Known as a generative AI, ChatGPT in its various forms uses predictive text and algorithms to form new content.
