Trending tunes come and go on TikTok, but the popular one at the moment has people making all sorts of videos using the sound. However, it’s not actually trending using its title, but one of the lyrics instead. Now that it’s catching on, people want to know what is the dumb decision TikTok song and who is Raye.
It’s so annoying when you find a song that you instantly love, but it’s not actually trending with the title of the song. There’s only so much internet scouring you can do before you admit defeat and just refer to it as ‘you know, that song on TikTok.’ That’s what happened with the dumb decision TikTok song, but luckily we have some answers.
What Is The Dumb Decision TikTok Song?
The song is actually called Escapism by Raye, featuring 070 Shake and was released in October of last year. It became both the artists’ highest charting song when it reached number one in the UK and Ireland. That definitely would have been influenced by just how popular it became on TikTok.
The song also charted in lots of European countries as well as getting on to the US’ Billboard Hot 100. This was another first for both Raye and 070 Shake.
If you didn’t already know, the song is about someone recovering from a breakup with someone that they loved. The coping mechanisms they use aren’t exactly healthy, but it’s about escaping from reality when it’s too hard to deal with. Speaking to Clash, Raye said:
“Escapism.’ is a story about running away from everything as fast as you can. The lyrics are about just leaving everyone on red, and going out on your own. It came from a messy time, but as humans, we just have to keep surviving!”
No wonder the song went viral, as that’s definitely a feeling that lots of people know and a situation they’ve been through. People have made revenge make-up videos to the song, doing BSL translations of it and even Euphoria edits. Our favourite, however, is from James Bakian, who uploaded a video of him singing a version from the ex-boyfriend’s position.

Who Is Raye?
Raye, who was born Rachel Agatha Keen, is a British singer and songwriter who has probably been around for longer than you realise. The young star rose to fame in 2016, aged 19, she featured on the Jonas Blue song By Your Side, as well as You Don’t Know Me by Jax Jones.
After a great year, Raye was shortlisted for the BBC Music Sound of 2017 award, where she came third. She then collaborated with David Guetta and Joel Corry on the song Bed, which charted at number 3 on the UK singles chart. This was her best-performing song until the release of Escapism.
Although the London-born artist released a mini-album in 2019, her first studio album will be released on February 3 2023. To promote the new album, Raye has been on a mini-tour, headlining gigs across Europe and the UK. However, she will be going on an even bigger tour after her album, My 21st Century Blues, is released next month.
