Wrapped 2022 might have only just come out, but users are already wondering when does Spotify Wrapped start counting for 2023.
Spotify users have been gripped this week by the release of another yearly round-up. Fans have seen their top artists and albums, as well as being given a music personality. Another new feature for 2022 was Spotify Instafest where users could see what their dream festival lineup would be.
All us data nerds were elated with all the information and we were all pleased that Spotify opted for some new graphics too! Now we’ve all rewatched our wrapped over and over again, it’s time to start thinking about next year.
When Does Spotify Wrapped Start Counting?
Spotify Wrapped starts counting on January 1 of each year and stops collecting data on October 31. So, if you’ve ever wondered why all the Christmas songs you binge in November and December never appear, it’s because they don’t count.
It makes sense that Spotify Wrapped doesn’t start counting until the beginning of the year, otherwise 2023’s data would be skewed with the end of 2022. It also means that everyone can listen to their favourite tunes embarrassment free, knowing that it won’t be on the slideshow.
So far, there’s no date for when Spotify Wrapped 2023 will be released, but is is usually at the beginning of December. This year was slightly different and the Spotify team got it out a little earlier on November 30 instead.
The month between when Spotify Wrapped stops counting and its release allows the streaming giant to collate everyone’s data. It means that all the super fans get the correct percentages too. That means there’s still plenty of time to bop to your guilty pleasures before it’ll appear in your data.

How To View Old Spotify Wrapped Playlists
If all the excitement around Spotify Wrapped 2022 has you nostalgic for the music of yesteryear, then seeing your old playlists couldn’t be easier.
Simply scroll to the bottom of your home screen on the app and you’ll see the current Spotify Wrapped playlist. If you scroll along, all the wrapped playlists from other years should appear alongside it.
Spotify Wrapped started in 2016, so you should have all the playlists since then. If you opened your account later, then you’ll have one for each year you’ve been a member. If it isn’t there for some reason, then just use the search bar for the year that you’re after.
How Does Spotify Calculate Your Top Songs?
When you open a Spotify account, you agree to them collecting your data. That way, every time you listen to a song, artist or podcast, Spotify knows about it.
It sounds a little invasive, but without it, we would never get Spotify Wrapped.
Simply, Spotify calculates your top songs by remembering each time you’ve listened to them. It keeps track from January 1 to October 31 and then gives you your top songs at the end of the year.
Be careful what you listen to though! Spotify counts anything that was listened to for more than 30 seconds as streamed. So you better be quick on the skip button if you don’t want you Spotify Wrapped 2023 all messed up.
