Jasmyne Jeffery November 19, 2022

The Eurovision powerhouse will be performing on this week’s Strictly Come Dancing Results show. Of course, well all know the same, but who is Sam Ryder ahead of his performance on Sunday?

In May, we were all on the edge of our seats as Sam Ryder almost beat Ukraine to win the Eurovision Song Contest to bring it home for the UK. Unfortunately due to their ongoing war with Russia, Ukraine is unable to host the contest next year, so it is coming to Liverpool instead. The historic achievement thrust the singer and songwriter into the public eye. We take a look at who Sam Ryder is in more detail ahead of his Strictly performance.

Who Is Sam Ryder?

The 33-year-old first rose to prominence on TikTok where he posted covers of songs during the pandemic. His voice immediately gave him massive popularity and even caught the attention of Justin Bieber, Sia, Alicia Keys and Elton John.

At the end of 2020, Sam Was the most followed UK artist on TikTok. His social-media success saw him sign with Parlophone and release his debut EP The Sun Is Going To Rise. The EP had over 100 million global streams and was followed up with a sold-out tour beginning in November 2022.

Sam wrote Space Man during the pandemic and it was sent to the BBC and TaP Music in January 2022. He then accepted the offer to represent the UK at Eurovision 2022. Since his Eurovision glory, Sam has gone on to perform for the Queen’s jubilee and even with Brian May and Roger Taylor and the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert.

Sam Ryder Will Perform On The Strictly Come Dancing Results Show

This week, the dancing contest heads to Blackpool for one of the best shows of the year. It’s one that all the celebrities want to make it to if the final seems a little out of reach.

After Tony Adams left last week, the remaining contests are Ellie Taylor, Fleur East, and Hamza Yassin. Also hoping for another week of glory is Helen Skelton, Kym Marsh, Tony Adams, Will Mellor and Mollie Rainford. After being in the bottom two with Tony and only making it through because of Tony’s injury, Tyler West has something extra to prove this week.

It’s expected that Sam will perform his new song, All The Way Over in the interval between the results. The track is off of his new album, There’s Nothing But Space, Man! which is released today, November 18!
