Fans of The Masked Singer are convinced that Rhino is boyband star, Charlie Simpson. After having lots of success in the early noughties, what has Charlie from Busted been up to, including singing show rumours.
Kids of the early 2000s were one of two kinds of people: fans of McFly, or fans of Busted. The latter has a distinctively American sound, despite being very British, and captured the hearts of young fans everywhere (myself included).
Busted ran from 2000-2005 releasing some absolute classics such as Crashed The Wedding, Air Hostess, Year 3000, What I Go To School For, Thunderbirds Are Go… I’ll stop there because I’ll just carry on. Their pop-punk vibe and…interesting lyrics are timeless and are still played at school discos 20 years later.
With four UK number 1s, two Brit Awards, and selling millions of records, the band broke up in 2005.
What Has Charlie From Busted Been Up To?
Charlie broke hearts across the nation when it was announced he was leaving Busted in late 2004, with the whole band separating in early 2005.
The Busted star had already formed another band, Fightstar before the pop-punk split in 2005. The band was post-hardcore and released four albums together, with a different style from Busted. AllMusic says that Charlie was “perhaps the only pop star to make the convincing transition from fresh-faced boy bander to authentic hard rock frontman.”
Fightstar took a hiatus in 2010, at which point Charlie pursued a solo career, releasing three successful albums across the UK and Europe. The first, Young Pilgrim, was released in 2011 and charted at number 6 in the UK albums chart. 3 years later, he released Long Road Home, and followed up with his third album in 2016. Little Hands was a compilation of rarer songs from 2010-2016.
Throughout this time Charlie did several live shows. In 2013 he played in the Vans Warped tour in America, later the same year he supported Deaf Havana on their UK tour. The next year he did a series of smaller shows before heading on a 13-date UK tour in early 2015.
Getting Busted Back Together
In 2013, Matt Willis and James Bourne reformed Busted partially with plans to tour with McFly as a supergroup. McBusted continued into 2015, when Charlie rejoined the group, finally embarking on a tour with all the members of Busted and McFly in attendance. It’s safe to say that fans were more than pleased with the reunion.
In 2016 Busted went on their Pigs Can Fly UK tour, the first since their split in 2005. They then released their third studio album in late 2016, with a fourth album in February 2019 which reached number 2 on the UK albums chart. After one last tour, the band announced another hiatus to pursue more solo projects.
Charlie then released his fourth album, Hope is a Drug earlier this year with another tour in the works.
In his personal life, Charlie married his longtime girlfriend Anna Barnard in 2014. They have two songs together, Arlo born in 2015 and Jago in 2018.
Fans Are Convinced That Charlie Simpson Is Rhino In The Masked Singer
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, fans are very confident that Charlie is Rhino on The Masked Singer. With his distinctive sound and not-so-subtle clues, there aren’t any other names being mentioned nearly as much.
Fans have compared videos of Rhino performing Chasing Cars to Charlie performing live and the similarity is undeniable.
Fans of Busted know his voice when they hear it, and they are shouting that Rhino is Charlie Simpson from the rooftops!
Fans are willing to go to great stakes to convince everyone of the true identity of Rhino on The Masked Singer.
There doesn’t seem to be anything in his schedule currently, and he hasn’t denied that he’s on the show. Whether fans are right or not, we’ll have to see. For now, we can all just convince everyone that Charlie is on The Masked Singer and reminisce about our younger days by listening to some Busted classics.
Following his outstanding initial performance, Rhino was at it again with his most recent song. Performing Try by P!nk, the performer many think is Charlie again pulled out a showstopper.
Given his famous tone, it is somewhat surprising that none of the judges have even suggested the former Busted front man. And yet, there is history when it comes to the more obvious performers.
When Lenny Henry was on the show, the judges, including his regular Comic Relief cohost Davina McCall, failed to suggest him week in, week out, despite it being the most obvious performer on the show to date.
Could the same be happening with Rhino? After all, once the judges say the name, everyone watching will surely realise they are right. And then the fun of the mystery is lost weeks ahead of a final Rhino is inevitably destined for.
How Tall Is Charlie Simpson?
Some fans have been speculating about Rhino based on his size. So what is Charlie Simpson’s height? After all, it seems that it would be someone with a larger stature given the character’s imposing frame.
Simpson is 6 foot 4 inches tall, so he would definitely fit the criteria. That said, Rhino’s shoulders also seem huge and that has led some to believe the person inside is equally large.
As we’ve seen before on The Masked Singer, the costume is often great at disguising not only a contestant’s face, but also their body, with padding used to trick us into thinking someone is particularly big…or small.
